Job Summary
The Rail Track Inspector is responsible for inspecting track structure to ensure compliance with railroad policy as well as federal and state regulations.
Major Responsibilities
Detect deviations based on both company and federal regulations
Initiate repair of track defects
Detect flaws in track surface, alignment, and gauge
Prepare inspection reports
Assist in the replacement or repair of items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
Clean up after work completion
Comply with track safety standards, operating rules and safe work procedures
Working Conditions
Walking and working on uneven terrain and surfaces
Work shift work, as well as work away from home on various work cycles and occasional overtime
Work at all locations across the region
Work outdoors, which includes extreme weather conditions, involving physical work
Perform repetitive physical activities during the course of a shift
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds
Frequent climbing, balancing, grasping, and good eye-hand coordination
Comply with safe work procedures and policies
Requirements
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
Valid Driver's License
Must meet FRA 214 requirements
Must be 18 years of age
Must meet all medical fitness for duty requirements for the position
Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory and safety environment
Welding skills
Knowledge of Railroad Operating Rules
Post-Secondary education
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and hazmat endorsements
Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery
Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
Training
Upon hiring, candidates will attend a one-week on-the-job training at the CN Campus in Homewood, IL. Successful completion of the training program is mandatory in order to work as a Rail Track Inspector.
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
